Wynn Las Vegas has confirmed that XS, the megaclub that helped put the Encore side of the Strip on the map, will shut its main room this summer for a genuine renovation rather than a cosmetic touch-up. Crews start moving in during late May, the full closure lands sometime in August, and the target is a reopening before the calendar flips to 2027, timed so the club can celebrate the same night it always has.

That night matters here. XS first opened its doors on December 31, 2008, and every year since it has treated New Year's Eve as its unofficial birthday party. Wynn wants the room back in service in time to keep that streak alive, which puts a real deadline on a project that otherwise has no public completion date attached to it.

For a venue that has hosted nearly every marquee electronic act of the last decade and a half, going dark for a stretch is a bigger story than a routine remodel would be anywhere else on the Strip.

Why a 17-Year-Old Room Is Getting Rebuilt Now

The timing tracks with what has been happening around it. Newer rooms across town, from LIV at Fontainebleau to Zouk inside Resorts World, have leaned hard into bigger video walls, moving light rigs and sound systems built around the kind of festival-scale sets that now headline most residencies. XS was designed for a different production era.

Staying relevant for eighteen years without a ground-up rebuild already put XS in unusual company. Most Strip rooms get some form of refresh every five to seven years just to keep pace with production trends, so this long a run before a full overhaul is well outside the norm for the market.

Wynn hasn't framed the project as a reaction to any single competitor by name, but resort operators rarely take real revenue off the table for months unless the case for spending the money has become hard to ignore.

The Music Doesn't Actually Stop

This isn't a full shutdown of Wynn nightlife. An outdoor-facing setup called XS Main Stage picks up starting in late May, giving the resident calendar somewhere to keep running while the indoor room is torn apart behind it.

Later in the closure window, nights are expected to shift over to Encore Beach Club At Night, the pool deck's after-dark format, so guests still have a Wynn-branded room to book into rather than a gap on the calendar.

Crucially, the talent isn't being reshuffled. Names tied to the XS residency calendar, including The Chainsmokers, Diplo and Kaskade, remain part of the lineup through the transition. This is a room swap for guests, not a lineup shake-up.

What Guests Can Realistically Expect From the New Room

Wynn hasn't published a room-by-room breakdown of what changes, but the direction is easy enough to read from what the rest of the Strip has already built out. Expect heavier investment in screens, updated lighting, and a sound system tuned for the current wave of headline sets rather than a 2008-era rig.

Don't expect a location change or a rebrand. Every signal from Wynn points to XS keeping its name, its footprint inside Encore, and its December 31 opening-night tradition, just with new infrastructure underneath the same address.

The bigger open question for regulars is whether the layout that made XS's pool-to-club flow so recognizable survives the update intact, or gets reworked along with everything else in the room.

Where to Be While XS Is Under Construction

If a trip lands in that in-between summer-to-fall window, the move is simple: track which nights are running at XS Main Stage versus Encore Beach Club At Night, since the calendar is likely to shift week to week during the transition period.

It also means the rest of the Strip's rooms, from Zouk to Marquee to LIV, pick up a slightly bigger share of the marquee residency nights while Wynn's reopening timeline plays out over the coming months.

Either way, a closed room doesn't mean a closed guest list. Confirm which room a given resident is actually spinning in that week before you book anything, and get on the list early so the night is already sorted before you walk up.
